i often wonder if black people will ever achieve equality in any european dominated society. the christian god many of us pray & cling to so fervently is credited with ensuring the genesis & dominance of european civilization at the expense of all others. it’s termed “manifest destiny” and is essentially a justification for past, present, & future european dominance over people of color.

persistent racism has worked to ensure a permanent lower class that is easily distinguished by skin color.  the native peoples had absolutely no clue of the profoundly different worldview and way of life they were preparing to encounter and would soon be forced to accept when they welcomed the first european settlers.

but africans were hunted & dragged over as prisoners & as property of europeans. we were sentenced to work the land and forced to serve our masters in the face of unimaginable cruelty. we endured this for over 200 years, held back by our faith & imagining a heaven where we were free. but “free” became a horrible new illusion in the face of the terrorism we’d be subjected to for the next 100 years after slavery was outlawed. we were disenfranchised, disempowered, & even dismembered.  and now, nearing 50 years later in 2009, america has elected a black president. god keep him safe…
