mid-summer shadows

the girls are really growing up. they’re entering 4th and 5th grade next year already. we’ve been enjoying the summer so far, with tennis lessons & trips to the beach & pools. on tuesday, july 14, we visited the yonkers waterfront to capture these flicks. it was a beautiful, cloudless, 80 degree new york city summer day and the waterfront was the perfect backdrop.

took the girls to dinner at dinosaur bbq’s in harlem today. they make the greatest ribs & bbq wings in all of harlem. sadly, the girls didn’t much enjoy them, but no matter. i sure did. after we ate, we strolled across the street to the recently completed west harlem piers waterfront park near w. 125 street & the henry hudson pkwy. snapped these pics of the girls as we enjoyed the chilly, but promising spring weather new york city expects this weekend.

winter wonderland

new york city got its first significant snow of the season today, just in time for last minute christmas shopping. i snapped a few photos while running errands before i picked up the girls from school. of course, when they saw the snow, i had to let them play & enjoy themselves, and i snapped a few more pics.

we’re expecting 6 inches here in the bronx, which is perfect–not too much, but enough to create snow angels & fairly decent snowmen.

hope the snow hangs around through the weekend…it’s absolutely beginning to look a lot like christmas! :-)

macy’s santaland 2008

the girls & santa claus @macy's santaland

took the girls to macy’s santaland today, where we strolled through a well-imagined & constructed north pole, complete with elves, santa’s workshop, train sets, ice-skating toy bears, and of course, a session with the man himself.

after the girls whispered in santa’s ear their wishlist, we headed north on broadway to 42nd street & times square. it was a balmy night, with temps in the 60′s so we took more flicks before braving toys r us to pick up a few gifts for my niece & nephew.

halloween 2008: autumn in the bronx: part II

eleven days later and new york city is definitely at peak fall foliage. halloween 2008 dawned cold and sunny but by the late afternoon, temps had climbed well into the mid 60′s. i snapped some of these flicks this morning walking through van cortlandt park on my way home from class and took another set this afternoon with the girls’ and their halloween costumes as we walked along mosholu parkway preparing to trick-or-treat:

cool temperatures and shorter days have produced brilliant reds, golds, & greens on our deciduous trees here in new york city. usually, we reach peak foliage here right after halloween, but the recent cold snap seems to have sped things along. i snapped these pics of the lake in van cortlandt park on october 20.
