kramer vs. kramer

the girls & i finally got a chance to check out 1979′s best picture, kramer vs. kramer. the award winning film starred dustin hoffman as a workaholic advertising exec forced to care for his young son when his wife’s mental illness causes her to abandon them. kramer vs. kramer was a groundbreaking film that easily captured the shift in gender based domestic roles that was occurring at the end of the 1970′s.

dustin hoffman won a best actor academy award for his portrayal of ted kramer, a young new york yuppie who quickly forges a surprisingly tender and loving relationship with his 6 year old son when his wife suddenly leaves. she returns 18 months later seeking to regain custody. joanna kramer’s solemn, weepy, but sympathetic character is rendered eloquently by meryl streep, who also won a supporting actress oscar.

between the new york backdrop and the way the film portrays devoted fatherhood & separated parents, the girls & i can’t get enough of kramer vs. kramer. highly recommended for families, single dads, single moms & everyone else who can relate.

noah’s arc in theaters oct. 24

according to facebook’s noah’s arc fan group, there is exciting news for fans of the popular series that’s been confirmed here. Noah’s Arc invited viewers to “experience the lives and loves of four African-American gay men looking for love and signs of intelligent life in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.” The groundbreaking series ran for two highly rated seasons on mtv’s logo network.

but after a dispute with the network over a third season in 2007, series creator Patrick Ian Polk decided instead to wrap up the characters’ storylines in a feature film. apparently though, logo’s still on board and Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom is due in theaters on oct. 24.

a plot synopsis is just emerging and can be read here but it seems a bit of a spoiler. logo’s page offers a more nuanced, brief summary of the characters’ lives in the movie and will probably be the most accurate place to go for news and updates as the release date nears.

both seasons of noah’s arc: the series are available on iTunes and on DVD.
