america’s favorite pastime

i’m sure albert pujols has a huge ole uncut dick

hits homeruns like a school chum he threatened

a dominican with significant foreskin

he’s much too big for his little bitch’s slit

she prolly leaped up and ran away from it

silly young ho too bad she didn’t know

there were dudes so much older

who took care of pujols on the road

but still he’s arriving back home

with his penis erect and swollen

got the green light so now go with it

use your hips or lips; grab hold of it

damn ma see now you were too slow with it

i done scooped up in front & took control of it

don’t blame me young lady i’m disposed to this

been handling dick since i first was exposed to it

way before baseball

would enter your attention

you were raised on barbies & princes

i aged memorizing rbi’s & pinch hits

we both have 2 holes

so to albert pujols

what’s the difference?

coach bob huggins cradles & comforts injured player

This was the scene this past weekend during a final four game for the ncaa championship. DaSean Butler, a popular player for West Virgina, lay writhing on the court floor in agony after a serious knee injury. His coach, Bob Huggins, took to his knees to comfort the player, first cradling him in his arms & then caressing his face and offering soothing words as Butler cried out in pain. The two were so close that their noses touched at one point.  this was a spontaneous display of fatherly affection that both touched and discomforted the huge audience that witnessed it.

twitter was first to react; bob huggins became a trending topic within minutes: most of the tweets were expressing shock & disbelief at having witnessed such an intimate moment. many agreed that the fatherly cradle & caress & physical closeness between coach and player was homoerotic and that’s what caused the discomfort. we are not accustomed to seeing men offering that type of consolation to other men. add to that bob huggins’ reputation as a win-first coach prone to outbursts & tirades against his players and then the image of this burly white man hovering on his knees astride a bawling young black man, using his body and his words to soothe as a father would a young child.

i was touched by the scene, so much so, that it got me wondering what it would have felt like to have that intimate comfort with another man without any sexual or erotic feelings. i’m not the only one, i’m sure. many young men who have never had intimacy with a father in that way still develop a healthy sexuality…why have others of us not?

what do you think about coach huggins public display of affection?

mlb opening week 2009

mlb2009openingweek

the 2009 mlb baseball season kicks off this week and while most of new york is electricified with the new stadiums that my yankees & mets are breaking in this year, there is still a full slate of nationally televised games to kick off the season this week.

as usual, espn & espn2 are airing 5 games on opening day, including, of course :-) games featuring the new york mets @ cincinnati at 1pm eastern & a 400 start for the new york yankees @ baltimore orioles. in between, there’s also an alcs rematch in boston between the tampa bay rays & red sox at 2 eastern.

the evening games include the chicago cubs @ houston at 7 & a home opener for the los angeles angels against oakland at 9pm. a full day of baseball indeed for your opening week 2009.

the yankees official home opener at the new yankee stadium is next thursday, april 16. the mets play their first official game in their new citifield stadium next monday, april 9.

ny giants lose :-(

the road to superbowl XLIII in 3 weeks no longer runs through new york. the giants were knocked out the nfl postseason in a disappointing & upset loss to the philadelphia eagles  yesterday. last year’s surprise superbowl champions won’t be repeating their improbable championship run.

the centers of the football universe now shift to the four remaining teams, two of which will meet on sunday, february 1 in superbowl XLIII in tampa, florida. it will all be decided next sunday, january 18, when the eagles meet the arizona cardinals for the nfc championship game at 3 on fox. the afc showdown between the baltimore ravens & pittsburgh steelers gets underway at 630.

i’m 1-5 in nfl posteason picks this season. before the giants fell, carolina, indianapolis, tennessee, & atlanta were each upset. only the steelers held home field advantage against the san diego chargers yesterday to advance to a conference championship game.

not sure who i’m picking now to win at all. it’s hard absorbing this giants loss so i may be done with nfc teams, although arizona & the eagles both offer a surprise but compelling match up. the afc match up is even more impressive though, with a strong baltimore ravens team prepared to hold it’s own against a favored pittsburgh steelers team.

who are your picks for superbowl XLIII? and most importantly, where will you be watching? it is only 3 weeks away….

score bugs/score banners: digital on-screen graphics

so that’s what those thingys are called: digital on-screen graphics. i’ve been an avid viewer of sports and news programming for over two decades now. in fact, my interest in broadcasting inspired me to originally pursue a communications/broadcasting degree during my first stint in college. so i spend a lot of time observing & critiquing broadcasts and appreciate how technology has improved the production and presentation of broadcasts to viewers. the utility of computer graphics (CGI) programming has infused broadcasts with eye-catching visuals, and the trend has been to superimpose station and broadcast identification & even advertising in ingenious (and somewhat intrusive) ways onto the viewer screen.

these on-screen graphics apparently have their genesis in news programming as early as the 1970′s. but it was the adoption of these during sports programming over the past 15 years that has made digital on-screen graphic imaging seem ubiquitous. according to wikipedia, on screen graphics during sports broadcasts is still relatively new. television network ABC is credited with imposing the first score bug on a NASCAR broadcast in 1994. FOX broadcasts were next, followed by ESPN & CBS two years later, with NBC beginning the practice in 2001. *source

score banners, the ones that hug the top of the screen, have a similar recent history. the first one of those is credited to a local sports network’s minor league hockey game, also in 1994. FOX sports was apparently next, implementing scoring banners for its broadcasts in 2001.

ABC’s score banner debuted jarringly along the bottom of the screen during monday night football telecasts in 2005. NBC soon followed suit with its college football broadcasts. the cable networks have been using both bottom & top screen sports banners for at least the last two years.

digital onscreen graphics have of course, proliferated on broadcasts outside of sports too this decade. during nearly all local newscasts, a station watermark, often featuring time and/or current weather conditions is superimposed near the bottom right of the screen. in fact, just about every national broadcast now includes on screen graphics/tickers identifying everything from news summaries to station promos.

so what’s your take on digital on-screen graphics. do they enhance or interrupt your television viewing experience? weigh in…

farewell to yankee stadium

Tonight is the last game that will be played at the historic Yankee Stadium. When the Yankees take the field at 8:00 tonight against the Baltimore Orioles, there will be plenty of ceremony to mark the occasion. Yankee greats of yore are expected to be in attendance to celebrate 85 incredible years as the most decorated franchise in all of sports.

Although the team won’t make the playoffs for the first time in 11 years, tonight’s game will still be a festive, although bittersweet occasion. The New Yankee Stadium is nearing completion directly across the street and will open for the 2009 season on April 14. Tonight’s game is on ESPN @ 800.
