omg. what the fuck??? an earthquake in haiti? this poor, cursed nation! oh my. why this horrible tragedy in the most impoverished place on the planet. how unfair!

tragedy strikes without warning. that’s what’s so frightening about it. stuff happens out of nowhere. there we were, having a normal weekend 4 days ago & january 12 was just going to be tuesday. no idea that a catastrophe would occur. how random…or is it…

haiti is the only country founded by a successful slave rebellion. and boy has it suffered. 95% of the 9 million population is black, french/african black. and most of the country is poor. desperately poor. why do people who live in abject poverty continue to have children?? isn’t that irresponsible??

haiti’s brutal history is well documented. most unfavored nation, it seems she was. can’t imagine why fate has been so unkind to haiti and our people there. i remember when the hiv/aids epidemic began, haitians were considered patient zero. people from haiti were at extremely high risk for hiv. why was that??

pray for haiti. this is unimaginable.

looks like the verdict on california’s supreme court challenge to the invalidation of the state’s same sex marriages as a result of the november passing of proposition 8 is in and will be announced tuesday, may 26. that afternoon, citizens will gather in major cities across the united states to either celebrate or protest the decision of the california supreme court. according to the dayofdecision.org website:

Depending on what the court decides, we will either PROTEST or CELEBRATE

We will PROTEST if:

–  The court upholds Prop 8, and invalidates the 18,000 same-sex marriage licenses that California already issued;

or,

–  The court upholds Prop 8,  but upholds the 18,000 same-sex marriages already performed, which would be a cruel, but pyrrhic victory for equality.

We will CELEBRATE if:

–  The court rejects Proposition 8 and says that same-sex couples are entitled to the marriage rights that heterosexual couples already have.

well i’ll be attending what i believe will be a celebration/victory march in new york city’s west village because something tells me the california supreme court has rejected prop 8 and will honor same sex marriages. so get you a new outfit boys & girls cause we’re gonna party

*update: prop 8 was upheld. although the marriages performed before prop 8 were also validated, plans are brewing for huge protests this evening in major cities. there is a lot of disappointment & outrage at this decision by the california supreme court to uphold the ban on gay marriage in that state. peeps are gonna take to the streets…what about you?

President Obama & First Lady Michelle Obama met and had tea with the Queen of England today at Buckingham Palace. The Obamas are visiting London as part of the G-20 gathering of world leaders dedicated to tackling the global financial crisis.

The First Lady looked absolutely radiant as she and Obama emerged from Air Force One Tuesday evening for the Obamas first visit abroad since becoming America’s royalty.  Mrs. Obama has her own itinerary on this trip, meeting with the Prime Minister of England’s wife and touring a renowned cancer center in London.

The Obamas are scheduled to visit 4 other countries on their 8-day overseas visit, set to conclude next Wednesday in Turkey.

lol @educator/rob for sending this my way. dubya begins life after the white house with a speaking engagement on march 17 somewhere overseas, i believe. he’s projected to make $150,000 per speech. who on earth would pay that much to hear what he’s gotta say…unless this is really his new life after the oval office lol.
